Sara Conaway creative director
Tell us about yourself, how did you become a creative director?
I’ve been reaching out in the modeling world for over a year now. I’ve been trying to connect with people and grow my social media pages. I would often have to put together an idea for my own photo shoots so I figured I’d give it a try on a larger scale and get some great models together to create some magic!
What’s the most difficult thing about being a creative director?
The time crunch feels all too real when you get to the point that you’ve announced a shoot date. Finding the right people to fit your overall theme and have a cohesive dynamic.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Not sure if I’m influenced by one specific person/people. I often just see tid bits of ideas and techniques throughout my life that inspires me to create something just as beautiful and real as something I saw and felt.
What do you think are the most important qualities needed by a creative director?
It does seem obvious to say since it’s in the name, but I think you definitely need to have the ability to let your creative juices flow. You have to be able to think about how things are going to look from every angle and light set up that could be possible in the environment you plan you shoot in. Also patience, you have to learn that nothing can happen overnight and that no matter how big or little the steps you’re taking are at least you’re still moving.
What do you see as some of the trends in creative design and direction?
It does seems like people have been striving to step out of the box for creative works and create something unique and unorthodox.
Where do you find inspiration?
I often find a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram honestly. Especially if I have a specific theme in mind for a project already.
Describe how art is important to society.
Art is above all a memory. It’s a way for people to put their creative stamp on the world and say “Hey I was here. See me!”
If you could take your art in any direction without fear of failure or rejection, where would it lead? What new thing would you try?
At heart I want to be an architect, but I also love fashion and photography. I’d love to be able to combine them in a way that’s emotional and challenging to the eye.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Well hopefully I will have completed my degree for Architectural Engineering. I still plan to grow my modeling and creative directing career along the way and afterwards.
