SUSTAINABILITY INSPIRED PROJECT
FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS CLOTHING PRODUCTION HAS ROUGHLY DOUBLED.
100 BILLION ITEMS OF CLOTHING ARE PRODUCED EACH YEAR.
60% OF THEM ARE MADE OF PLASTIC.
FASHION ACCOUNTS FOR A 20% OF PLASTIC PRODUCED GLOBALLY EACH YEAR.
THIS IS THE SECOND LARGEST POLLUTING INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD COMPRISES 10% OF TOTAL GLOBAL CARBON EMISSIONS.
AS MUCH AS ALL EUROPEAN UNION.
500,000 TONS OF OF MICROFIBERS ARE RELEASED INTO THE OCEAN EACH YEAR FROM WASHING CLOTHES — THE EQUIVALENT OF 50 BILLION PLASTIC BOTTLES.
LAUNDRY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A 35% OF GLOBAL RELEASES OF PRIMARY MICROPLASTICS TO THE WORLD OCEANS.
CURRENTLY THERE IS NO WAY HAS BEEN FOUND TO CLEANSE IT OF THESE FIBERS.
ACCORDING TO THE UN, THE FASHION INDUSTRY ACCOUNTED FOR 20% OF WASTEWATER POLLUTION.
EVERY TIME WE DO OUR LAUNDRY, AN AVERAGE OF 9 MILLION MICROFIBERS END UP IN THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS THAT CANNOT FILTER THEM.
THESE FIBERS PASS THROUGH TO SEWAGE WATER, AND POTENTIALLY APPEAR IN THE OCEAN, OR RIVERS, AS MICROPLASTICS.
ONCE IN THE OCEAN, PLASTIC FIBERS BECOME FOOD FOR MARINE LIFE.
MICROPLASTICS CAN CREATE NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES IN AQUATIC CREATURES AND WORK WAY UP THE FOOD CHAIN, PRODUCING HEALTH CHALLENGES IN HUMANS.
IT’S ESTIMATED THAT BY 2025 THERE WILL BE 1 TON OF PLASTIC FOR EVERY 3 TONS OF FISH IN THE OCEANS.
BY 2050 THE WEIGHT OF PLASTIC WILL OVERTAKE THAT OF FISH.
THE TINY PIECES OF PLASTIC HAVE ALREADY BEEN FOUND ALMOST EVERYWHERE ON EARTH.
RECENT RESEARCH PROVES THAT 72% OF MILK AND 75% OF MEAT CONTAINS PLASTIC.
WE ARE EATING, DRINKING AND BREATHIN IN PLASTIC AND ITS LITERALLY RAINING DOWN FROM THE SKY.
LAST YEAR MICROPLASTIC FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WAS FOUND IN THE HUMANS BLOOD.
