It is called menstruation: not "period," nor "the monthly visitor," nor any euphemism that hides its rawness, its power, its nature. We have been told not to wear white, not to swim or exercise, that we become sad, that we must avoid cold drinks and acidic foods. These are myths that seek to reduce us, to confine us within a stereotype of weakness and submission. But they do not reflect the beauty that lives within our menstrual cycle: the shifting colors, the quiet introspection, and the constant transformation.

Veitiocho (Twenty-eight) is an editorial styling project that explores the intimacy and femininity of menstruation. Created as a student collaboration between Juan Santiago Jaramillo, Juliana Giraldo, Manuela Restrepo, and myself, the project seeks to normalize the taboo around menstrual periods by highlighting the different shades and intensities of blood, bodily expression, and the introspective nature of this time of the month.

This work wouldn’t have been possible without the talent of Jon Jimenez (photographer and retoucher), María Paula Medina (makeup and hair), and María Paula Arango (model). Special thanks to our professors Andrés Montaño, William Cruz, and José Luis Ruiz for their guidance.
